Police rejects reports of cutting walnut trees for Shopian police office
Srinagar, Feb 21 : The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday rejected reports that five walnut trees were cut under security force cordon as a senior police officer needed wood in south Kashmir district of Shopian.
“District Shopian police administration has clarified that on February 20, 2018, Police Post Imam Sahab received a written complaint from one Mohammad Shafi Ganaie of Upora Nagbal stating that some unknown persons have cut off his apple and walnut trees which has caused him loss,” a police spokesperson said.
He said a case was registered and investigation was taken up.
During the investigation, he said the wood was seized and was given on “supurdnama” to Mohammad Shafi Bhat who resides in the neighborhood of the orchard. “As such the reports are refuted,” he added.
