Bengaluru, Feb 20 : Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Punjab National Bank (PNB) Scam involving fugative jeweller Nirav Modi.

Speaking to reporters at Vidhana Soudha before attending the ongoing Budget session here, Mr Siddaramaiah said Nirav Modi who had looted the nation escaped right 'under the nose' of Mr Modi and the Prime Minister should own up the responsibility and resign.

''Who let Nirav Modi to escape, people of the nation want to know. The Union Government should take the direct blame. What was Mr Modi doing until Nirav escaped from the country. He is unfit to lead the country and should immediately resign as Prime Minister,'' he demanded.

Referring to Commission issue raised by Mr Modi during his Public meeting at Mysuru on Monday, Mr Siddaramaiah termed the allegations by Mr Modi as 'baseless and far from truth'.

''Mr Modi is acting as a petty politician and lowered the decorum of Prime Minister's office. What evidence he has to call my government a commission government. I reject all his claims. By making such unfound allegations he has proved that he is unfit to be in the high office and should step down,'' he demanded.
