Srinagar, Feb 20 : Pakistani guns fell silent after retaliatory action by Indian troops in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, where three people were injured on Monday evening after shelling in civilian areas.

Meanwhile, in view of ceasefire violation by Pakistan troops, police shifted inhabitants of village Thajal and Soni to safer locations to avoid any casualty.

A defence ministry spokesman Lt Col Rajesh Kalia said Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing from across the Line of Control (LoC), targeting forward Army posts in Uri sector on Monday evening at 1715 hrs. He said later, Pakistani troops targeted civilian population in Churunda near the LoC. Indian troops also retaliated effectively, he said, adding that the damage suffered by Pakistan troops was not available.

A police spokesperson in a tweet said, 'Cease Fire violation by Pakistan in Churanda,Silikote area of Hajipeer Sector of Uri. 03 civilians sustain injuries and are being evacuated to http://hospital.No loss of property reported so far.'

'In view of unprovoked firing by #Pakistani troops in civilian areas of Churanda Silikote of #URI , inhabitants of villages of Thajal and Soni have been moved to safer locations. @JmuKmrPolice on spot and helping out the people,' the spokesperson further tweeted.

However, officials told UNI on Tuesday said the guns are silent and there was no fresh firing from Pakistani side. They confirmed that only one woman was injured in the Pak shelling.

This was the first ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in Uri sector this year. However, Pakistani troops are targeting Indian positions on LoC and International Border (IB) almost daily in Jammu region
