Train service resumes in Kashmir after two days

Srinagar, Feb 18: Train service resumed on Sunday after remaining suspended for two days for security reasons in the Kashmir valley, where separatists had called for a general strike on Saturday against shifting of detenues from central jail, Srinagar and killing of Hurriyat Conference (HC) leader by unidentified gunmen.

On Friday, train service was suspended for security reasons in noth Kashmir after clashes erupted when security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at Palhalan Pattan.
Train service has been resumed in the Kashmir valley after receiving a fresh advisory from police last night, a railway official told UNI.
The official said that all trains will run as per schedule on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region. Similarly, trains will chug today in north Kashmir after remaining suspended for two days, he said.
'We witness heavy rush of passengers on Saturday, particularly in the afternoon when people are returning to their homes to avail Sunday holiday. Similarly, Monday morning also witness heavy rush when people resume their normal activities,' he added.
He said railway department is acting on the advice of police for the safety and security of passengers and railway property.
