Infiltration bid foiled in Poonch, terrorist fire at CRPF camp in Pulwama

JAMMU: The Army on Thursday foiled an infiltration attempt by a group of terrorists along the Line of Control in Poonch district whereas another CRPF camp in Awantipora area of Pulwama district came under terrorists’ fired Thursday night.

While no loss of life was reported on our side, the sources informed that two intruders have been killed by the Army, which was not confirmed at the time of filing this report.

An attempt by militants to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan was foiled by the Indian Army on Thursday, military sources said.

Soldiers noticed suspicious movements in Balakote area of the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district early in the day. "The troops fired and the intruding terrorists were forced to withdraw back into the Pakistani side," an official said.

Meanwhile a source said that in a brief firing exchange, two intruding terrorists were killed while a search operation is going on. However, the same was not confirmed by the Army.

Earlier on intervening night of Thursday, suspicious movements by a group of four to five terrorists were noticed along LoC in Mendhar sector of Poonch which were engaged by the alert troops, thus foiling their attempt to cross over the LoC.

Late Thursday evening, terrorists fired a few shots towards a CRPF camp in Awantipora area of Pulwama district, police said.

"Terrorists fired a few shots at the CRPF camp at Panzgam in Awantipora area at 8.10 pm," a police official said.

He said the jawans from the camp returned fire, forcing the terrorists to flee. No casualties have been reported in the incident, the official said.

A search operation has been launched in the area to track down the terrorists, the official added.
