There are a lot of light-hearted books getting published nowadays and being liked by readers. Being branded as “Metro reads” or books that are mostly read during commute, these books have a simple heart of their own, with genuine portrayals and easy to connect with and relatable characters. Author Nivedita Vedurla comes up with such a book “Two Angels”, which though being a simple light- hearted read, delves into the domain of emotional complexities and the enigmatic journey of true love.

The prologue starts with Arun dealing with the loss of his wife Esha. The story then transitions to reminiscence, following Arun and Esha, the two protagonists about how they met and eventually fell in love. Arun, when he was in sixth standard, had to move to Mumbai due to his father’s transfer. He was sad due to the loss of his school friends, as happened every time he had to move to a new city. But he makes friends with Esha, Rohit and Priyanka on the first day of his school in Mumbai. He had formed a strong relationship with his friends when his father is again transferred to Nagpur but he stays in Mumbai due to his board exams. However, he moves to Nagpur after his board exams leaving behind his friends. Then, as he grows older and finds a job, Arun falls in love twice but doesn’t feel a strong connect with those girls and his relationships fail. However, he meets Esha again when he goes to Mumbai for an alumni meet and realises that Esha has been his true love after all. However, their relationship is short. Having lost Esha, Arun has a lot to ponder about. Will he survive Esha’s loss? Could he have found love only to lose it all to fate? The storyline answers such questions related to the permanency of true love and the many forms that true love comes in.

The front cover shows the two angels Arun and Esha in the form of a cute line drawing, reminiscent of many sketches made by teenage couples to profess their blossoming romantic love. This cover, though being simple, is very appropriate for the story and will certainly attract many people, especially those looking for a simple romantic read, to pick up the book. The blurb at the back cover also is very lyrical with references to the promenading sea and its relationship with the sea shore (also frequently referenced in the book), but like the prologue tells an important juncture in the story beforehand.

The subtitle of the book “Love waits where you never searched” is clichéd but readers will definitely ponder about its significance on reading the story. The characters are very much heartfelt, although more analytic depth is required in their portrayals. The story is well written and insightful and has a lot of good points and the whirlwinds in the life of Arun, his journey to reflection and hope and how he gathers his life again are well detailed.

This is a light-hearted read, but contrary to many books in this genre, also has a lot of deft emotional weight and sensitive handling of the narrative. This book should be read by lovers of such book genres and those who are in the mindset of reading a story dealing with elements of love and faith, for the author has weaved a narrative with fabrics of true love and eternal hope to bring out a tapestry of emotional outpourings with its inherent intricacies.
