Barbaric: Minor drug addict attempted rape before killing 8-yr old girl

JAMMU: The Police have claimed to solve the murder mystery of the 8-year old tribal girl in Kathua, which could be most gruesome crime incident in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, as a 15-year old boy, a drug addict staying with his uncle at the time of crime, was arrested on Friday.
The accused, police sources said, had kidnapped the minor girl and attempted rape on her. When met with resistance, the minor boy strangulated the 8-year old girl to the death.
While the confirmation as to whether the rape was committed was yet to come, with the medical report still pending, the official sources in police said that the accused had murdered the girl as he was of afraid that she would narrate the incident to her father.
The gruesome incident which rocked the State Legislative Assembly on Thursday, prompting the government to bring the accused to the book, even as the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti herself intervened was highlighted in the house on Friday as well where Minister for Revenue & Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri informed of the latest development and said that the accused has confessed to the crime. Veeri said the investigation conducted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SDPO border Chadwal revealed that the accused kidnapped the minor girl and put her in nearby cowshed at village Rassana, where he attempted to rape her and when she resisted, he killed her by way of strangulation.
Official sources in Police informed The News Now that the 15-year old boy (name withheld), a resident of Ward 10 of Hiranagar, was living with his maternal uncle in the same village, the deceased belonged to i.e Patal Rasana. They added that the accused was a drug addict and it was to keep him away from his friends that his family had sent him to his maternal uncle's residence. Official sources revealed that the accused kidnapped the minor girl and put her in nearby cowshed at village Rassana, where he attempted to rape her and when she resisted, he killed her by way of strangulation.
The further questioning of the accused was on till last reports poured in.
Earlier, in Legislative Assembly, giving details of the case, Veeri said that on 12 January, the complainant Mohammad Yousuf son of Shab Din of Rassana Mohara, Tehsil Hiranagar had produced a written application before the police stating therein that his daughter namely Asifa (8 years) had gone for grazing horses in the nearby forest area.
"At about 1600 hours, the horses returned to the Dhera but Asifa did not return," he had informed police, adding that he along with others had searched in the forest for next two days but the girl could not be traced.
Based on the complaint, a case FIR No: 10/2018 U/S363 RPC was registered and the investigation was started.
During the course of investigation, police party of Police Station Hiranagar and VDC Badoli visited the spot and search of Rassana forest where they recovered the body of missing girl Asifa on 17 January around 5:30 pm.
Thereafter the police team alongwith SDPO and SHO Hiranagar visited the spot and photography of dead body was conducted through crime photographer, service of FSL team was also utilized.
The dead body of deceased was taken into police custody for post-mortem.
Later on, the dead body was shifted to District Hospital Kathua for conducting the post-mortem through board of doctors. After the post-mortem, the dead body was handed over to its legal heirs for last rites.
Investigation of case is in progress to collect more evidence about the commission of offence by the accused, he said.
