Srinagar, Jan 17 : Hundreds of heavy vehicles, including those carrying essentials and oil tankers, left different parts of Jammu for Kashmir valley as only one-way Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) traffic will continue on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu highway till further orders.
However, Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) traffic will ply from both Srinagar and Jammu with some restrictions, a traffic police official told UNI on Wednesday morning.
He said as the road widening and repair work continued at several places, particularly between Ramban and Ramsu, only one-way HMV traffic was possible to avoid any traffic jam and accidents.
Today HMV traffic will ply from Jammu to Srinagar, he said adding no heavy vehicle, including the security force convoy, would be allowed from opposite direction.
However, the heavy motor vehicles will have to cross Udhampur from between 0500 hrs to 1000 hrs only, he said adding no HMV will be allowed after the deadline.
Two-way LMV traffic will continue to ply on the highway, the only road linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.
However, the Jammu bound light motor vehicles had to cross Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir, between 0700 hrs to 1400 hrs. Similarly from Jammu LMV have to cross Nagrota between 0600 hrs to 1000 hrs.
He said there is no change in the situation as the national highway, connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir remained closed.
The historic Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region also remained closed for winter months due to accumulation of snow and slippery road condition.
However, the Sadhna top and Razdan pass, connecting far flung and remote areas, including near the Line of Control (LoC) remained through because of less snowfall this winter so far
