Reports said that the one Seema Devi (now reportedly a converted Christian) had married to one Rinku Kumar (a Christian) resident of Sarya Nowshera of district Rajouri working as labourer in Jalandhar, Punjab.
After the marriage, both were working in Punjab but situation turned tense yesterday when the body of Seema Devi was brought to Sarya Nowshera where family members of female alleged it a 'murder'.
They also alleged that the female (now deceased) was forced to change her religion.
Meanwhile sensing trouble the local Police took the body under its custody for postpartum.
On Tuesday, trouble erupted again when husband and his family wanted to perform last rites of deceased -the burial as per Christian rituals which was met with sharp objection from the family of deceased who wanted to perform last rituals as per Hindu traditions.
The incident took ugly turn when family of deceased supported by some locals had heated arguments with family of deceased's husband.
Agitated locals vandalized the house of Rinku Kumar and set ablaze the place of worship established by him. Two shops and a tractor were also set on fire by agitated mob.
During the clashes with police around a dozen persons including some policemen were injured.
While police was forced to fire teargas shells to disperse the mob, additional forces were also called in later. It was only following the intervention of senior police and administrative officials that the situation was pacified and last rites of deceased Seema Devi were performed as per wishes of her family members i.e. as per Hindu rituals.
SSP Rajouri Jugal Manhas said that situation is under control and administration is keenly monitoring the situation. He said that action will be taken against the elements who tried to fan communal tension in the area.
