JAMMU: The opposition National Conference and Congress legislator from Ladakh and Kargil region along with other party legislators today lodged a strong protest in the assembly over Minister of State (MoS) for Tourism, Priya Sethi's unsatisfactory response over promotion of tourism in the Ladakh Region.
They later staged a joint walkout from the Assembly while one of them, Deldan Namgyal dared the government to make him the Tourism Minister for a day to see revamping of the department.
In the first sitting of the house, Asgar Ali Karbalai, the Congress legislator from Kargil sought reply from the government regarding the steps taken to promote and explore the pilgrimage as well as eco-tourism potential of the Kargil and Leh.
To this, the Cabinet Minister for Tourism, Tassaduq Mufti said that he has joined as minister only few days back and hence the adequate reply on this question should be sought from the MoS Tourism, Priya Sethi.
Karbalai was claiming that there are 3 Budha Statues, Draupadi Kund, historic stones on the names of 5 Pandavas of Mahabharta, Lush green hills and various adventure destinations in his Constituency which are unexplored till date.
He wanted the MoS Tourism to reply whether any consultant has been engaged to explore the tourism and pilgrimage potential of the Kargil or whether any DPR has been prepared or any special package has been announced for the same.
To this, Priya Sethi said that the DPR for the same is under process and on facing several supplementary questions from the Congress legislator, when she failed to come up with a satisfactory reply, most of the Congress legislators including Asgar Karbalai, Deldan Namgayal, Mumtaj Khan, Aijaj Khan, Rigzin Jora and other party legislators staged walkout from the house in protest.
Deldan Namgayal even dared the government to make him Tourism Minister for a day to see major changes in the Tourism map of the state.
