ICC U-19 World Cup: India registers comfortable 10-wicket win over Papua New Guinea

Mount Maunganui, Jan 16 : Riding on a lethal bowling attack followed by a scintillating innings by skipper Prithvi Shaw (57 not out), India outclassed Papua New Guinea by 10 wickets in a Group B fixture of the ongoing ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup here on Tuesday.

The Rahul Dravid-coached India colts are now placed at the top spot in group B points table after two wins from as many games.

Winning the toss, Shaw opted to field first and his bowlers kept on giving regular blows to minnows Papua New Guinea, who were ultimately bundled out for a paltry 64 runs in 21.5 overs, courtesy a lethal bowling by left-arm spinner Anukul Roy.

Roy was the wrecker-in-chief with figures of 5-14 while Shivam Magi bagged couple of wickets conceding 16 runs.

In reply, India hunted down the low total with ease as opener and skipper Shaw blasted his second half-century of the tournament. The Mumbai boy smashed 57 runs off just 39 deliveries, which was decorated by 12 boundaries.

Other opener Manjot Kalra also remained unbeaten on nine runs and the duo comfortably guided India home in just eight overs, with 252 balls to spare.

India will now take on Zimbabwe in their next match on January 19.
