Two held in connection with potato scattering case in Lucknow

Lucknow, Jan 13 : Two persons were arrested in connection with potato scattering on the streets of high security zone areas of state capital on January 6.

Additional Superintendent of Police (East) Sarvesh Kumar Mishra told UNI, on Saturday that Sushil Pal and Ankit Chauhan were arrested for their involvement in scattering potatoes on streets in front of Vidhan Sabha, Lohia Path and near 1090 crossing.
Both accused hailed from Kannauj district and were connected with a political outfit.

Case was registered against unknown miscreants for creating chaos and disturbing law and order, Mr Mishra said adding that potatoes were brought in eight vehicles from a cold storage.

It was reported that some farmers threw their crops in front of Raj Bhawan, Vidhan Sabha, Hazaratganj and some other roads early on January 6 as a mark of protest against the Uttar Pradesh government’s alleged apathy towards potato growers.

Following the incident, opposition parties had launched an attack on the Yogi dispensation, alleging that UP government was not serious about farmers problems and Yogi government only claims to be farmer friendly but the reality is quite different.

Taking serious note on incident, senior superintendent of police had suspended five police men including one sub-inspector.
SSP Deepak Kumar had suspended sub-inspector Pramod Kumar, constable Komal Singh and constable Naveen Kumar posted at Gautampalli police station, constable Ankur Chaudhary and constable Ved Prakash posted at Hazaratganj police station for negligence of duty.

Also, farmer’s union and other prominent farmer leader had denied their involvement in the incident.
