Jaspreet Kaur

To pump up your New Year Spirit and inspire you to beat every odd, We The Women has brought to you a little bit about the journey of Jaspreet Kaur. Now, she has not done anything ‘remarkable’ as the society would consider and she has not accomplished any accolade per-se; so, how her journey is inspiring? Well, she a specially-abled girl, who has refused to bow down to the adversities she faced throughout her life. The spirit with which she faces each day is refreshing, her zeal to survive is courageous and each of her smiles is an awe-inspiring accomplishment.
Are you at a point in your life that you feel helpless? Well, Jaspreet’s story might make you rethink. Born with a genetic disorder, Jaspreet had stunted growth which also resulted in other complications along with incapability to walk or even sit. She lost both her parents and is living with her younger brother presently. “I lost my mother when I was 29; until then I never really bothered about being disabled. She took care of me without any repent or remorse; such was her love. I was blessed and indebted by all the sacrifices she made for me all my life. There is not a single day that I do not miss her,” shares Jaspreet. She further tells, “Now, I am with my brother but he cannot be with me all the time. He leaves around 9 in the morning and time of his return is usually indefinite, so I am on my own most of the time.”
Today, Jaspreet is 32 years old and she has spent all of her life on bed. What would you do or feel, being bed-ridden like her? Probably give up every hope and every chance to be happy. But Jaspreet is an advocate of optimism.
“I really do not understand how anyone could ever give up on their life. It is really painful to learn how many people give up on their life, each day. I cannot think of anything that could push one to end their life,” says Jaspeet. She further adds, “I do not believe in giving up; one must face each problem with vigor and liveliness.”
Jaspreet lives by her words. Although she spends most of her time watching Television, she has recently inculcated interest in Social Media and you would find her thrilled to talk about it. But she doesn’t let her days pass by just like that. She loves to makes beaded necklaces, bracelets, anklets.
“I cannot remember when exactly I started doing it, it probably started as an attempt to pass time. I used to break and remake by redesigning bead necklaces and bracelets but soon I got passionate about it. None of the designs I have created are copied or inspired from anywhere and none of my work would resemble any other. They are all unique,” expresses Jaspreet.
You can access the fervor and nerve of this incredible woman by her dreams. Notwithstanding zero aid from government, Jasmeet now aspires to be independent and self-reliant financially and even employ a maid to be less dependent on anyone else. “I wish to sell the pieces I have created. I only make them and do not intend to use them, so it would be great to be able to sell some and make a dignified living out of it,” shares Jaspreet.
Jaspreet also shared how surreal it was to sell some of the jewelry she made on 31st December for the first time in her life. Now, Jaspreet is looking forward to an exhibition of her work on 8th March, which is also her birthday and coincidently International Women’s Day for which she is really excited.
So that was it. Hope it was a reminder for you that no matter how huge our problems appear, how piqued we are because of all the hurdles we have to face every single day, it could be really insignificant for others; for those who would do anything to be at your place, even if they had to deal with ten times more the problems you have. May be realizing this could help you have this year, some clarity and ignite the spark in you to conquer each odd and thrive and for life in general.
