Cold wave grips fog-hit Jammu, air service remains affected

Jammu: The cold wave on Thursday gripped fog-hit winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir while air service also remained affected due to poor visibility.
The blanket of fog early morning gripped Jammu and its peripheries thus further dipping the day temperature.

Vehicles moved at snail's pace due to fog while shopkeepers, roadside vendors, pedestrians were seen warming themselves with the help of bonfire at many spots.

Children braving chill were also seen going to school.

Air service at Jammu airport was also hit by the fog.

"Two flights since morning arrived late at the airport by 30 minutes from its scheduled time due to poor visibility," V K Gautam, Station Director, Jammu Airport, Airport Authority of India, told UNI.

He said the visibility has improved a bit and probably the departure and arrival of other flights will be on time.

However, some of the trains also arrived late by few hours at Jammu Tawi railway station.

A weatherman said fog will remain for another couple of days while the harsh weather conditions will improve after December 16.

"The day temperature has dipped by few degrees and was recorded 11.5 degree celsius while the night (minimum) temperature was 7 degrees," he said.

Reports from Katra said that chopper service from base camp to Sanjhi Chhat has also been suspended due to dense fog in the Trikua hills.

Moreover the new battery car track remained close for the pilgrims apprehending shooting stones and landslides but yatra was in progress from old traditional route.
