Traffic Police moots for 2 flyovers, addl tube from Jammu to Akhnoor

JAMMU: To ease the traffic congestion in Jammu city, the Traffic Police today has pressed government for two more flyovers and an alternate route from Jammu to Akhnoor as the pressure on roads in winter capital has increased to beyond limits hence resulting roads in 'killer roads.' The official statistics submitted to the government by Traffic Police for perusal, shockingly revealed that various road mishaps reported up to September, 2017 in Jammu only has 100 fatalities besides 1017 injured in 920 different road accidents reported across Jammu region.
Seeking attention from State Government in this regard, the traffic police also have sought two flyovers to decongest the traffic chaos viz. a flyover from BC Road to Ambphalla and another one from Ambphalla to Janipur. Besides this traffic authorities also have mooted a proposal for another tube from Jammu to Akhnoor. A senior police officer sharing information with The News Now told that the a slew of measures have been proposed by the traffic police on seeing the growing traffic chaos which is becoming unbridled horse for them. The fresh proposal was mooted after government dropped the same project in 2007 owing to lack of compensation to the cost of land.
"In 2007, a project worth Rs 30 Crore, approved for the construction of a flyover from the BC Road-Ambphalla stretch to ease pressure on the New Plot-Janipur road was dropped because the state government declined to bear the cost of land compensation", said a senior police officer. He said that the growing accidents are attributed to the registration of the swelling vehicles to the state motor vehicle department.
"According to the state's motor vehicle department seven lakh vehicles have been registered in Jammu", the traffic police quoted in their demands. SSP Traffic Nisha Nathyal when contacted briefly said, "Yes, a fresh proposal for construction of two flyovers and additional tube from Jammu to Akhoor road has been mooted before the government, just to ease the growing traffic loads."
She also reiterated that besides improving of road networking, the people also need to be made aware of routine traffic sense including lane driving and unauthorized parking along roads which often turn bottle necks for normal traffic.
