Law students float ‘The Awakening’

JAMMU: Law students from different parts of the state today floated a new body, “The Awakening”-a forum to strengthen the social and legal structure of the state. A meeting in this context was held at Gandhi Nagar, Jammu wherein the students told the media persons that it was felt that there was a huge vacuum as far as legal understanding of the individual rights is concerned and the situation is worst in rural areas. They said that one of the major objectives of the forum is to make people aware of their legal rights with regards to domestic violence, molestation, child abuse, women safety, harassment of the farmers by financial institutions. The social objective of the forum, they claimed is to fight against the menace of drugs and to motivate youth towards healthy life style. “Apart from this, we will provide legal aid to people who are poor and economically backward,” they said. Those who spoke in the function were Kr Sushil Singh Charak, founder Nations Development Association (NDA), Advocate Surinder Singh Chib, General Secretary NDA, Sameer Hussain Nadaf, Vice-President of “The Awakening”, Syed Ali Mujtaba, Spokesperson of the organization among others.
