Govt to issue coupons to West Pakistan Refugees, incorporates deleted names

Issuance of ration to continue as per precedence: Dy CM


JAMMU: The State Government has decided to issue ration coupons to all the genuine West Pakistani Refugees and the process will start soon in Jammu. Meanwhile, the names of three West Pak Refugees, which were deleted from the list of ration beneficiaries has been incorporated into the list.
It was decided in a high-level meeting convened by Deputy CM, Dr Nirmal Singh in his official chamber at civil secretariat, where Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Choudhary Zulfikar was also present along with his senior officials and West Pakistani Refugee Action Committee leaders led by Labha Ram Gandhi.
Sharing details about the deliberations of meeting, West Pak Refugees Representative Laba Ram Gandhi told The News Now that he came to know that names of three West Pak Refugees were deleted from the list of genuine benefeciaries, who are getting ration since 1947 from the Union Govt of India.
"Later, it was highlighted by a section of media and also meanwhile I also approached the state government that it is totally wrong that such violations are being done by the CA&PD Department," said Gandhi and added that taking serious note of my call, Deputy CM and CAPD Minister has convened an emergency meeting and solved the issue.
Taking cognizance in this regard, the CA&PD Minister Choudhary Zulfikar also instructed his officials to check why the names of three West Pak Refugees were deleted from the list of ration beneficiaries.
As per reports three West Pak Refugees, residents of Uttam Nagar in Kunjwani area reportedly informed the concerned department that their names have been deleted and they also took up matter with their leader Labha Ram Gandhi. It has happened for the first time since the migration of West Pak Refugees that name of any Refugee deleted intentionally or unintentionally from list of ration beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, Deputy CM, Dr Nirmal Singh and CA&PD Minister Choudhary Zulfikar said that the West Pak Refugees shall continue to take ration as past precedence and ration Coupons will be issued to the genuine beneficiaries so that adequate supply of ration and other related items are provided to them .
During the meeting, the participating members were informed that the total number of 19960 West Pak Refugees are being provided with rations and other related items. Giving the breakup numbers, official spokesperson said this include 2199 families in 88 villages of Kathua, 2051 in 75 villages of Bishnah, 1096 families in 82 villages of Hiranagar, 3348 families in 138 villages in RS Pura 1632 families in 134 villages of Samba, 2271 families in 95 villages of Akhnoor, 6908 families in 322 villages of Jammu. Similarly, 41 families are being provided ration in Udhampur, 08 families in Reasi and 5 families in Doda respectively.
