SHTM in collaboration with INTACH organizes “Heritage Walk” during World Heritage Week

Jammu Nov 22: School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, University of Jammu in collaboration with INTACH Jammu chapter today organized a Heritage Walk at Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex. The walk aimed to endow the historical significance of ancient monuments & palaces among the students of MBA (Hospitality & Tourism) & BBA (Hotel Management).

Sh. Sham Lal, KAS, Executive Director, Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society Jammu was the Chief Guest while Mr. Ruknuddin Mirza, Senior conservation Architect, INTACH was the key note speaker of the event. The function was attended by Mr. Kirpal Singh, Curator, Dogra Art Museum, Mubarak Mandi, Sh. S.M Sahni, Convenor INTACH, Jammu Chapter and faculty members, research scholars and students of SHTM.

Sh. Sham Lal in his address said that it is important to showcase the heritage of the state and youth can play a significant role in fostering the promotion of such places of historical significance as a tourist destination. He further emphasized that such heritage structures are the testimony to the past glory of the state.

Mr. Ruknuddin Mirza while elaborating on the concept of heritage urged upon preservation and conservation of heritage structures which are the true identity of any society. He further emphasized that student community in particular can act as a catalyst in sensitizing the local community about the significance of intangible heritage in preserving our true identity.
Prof Deepak Raj Gupta in his brief address inspired the tourism students to proactively take initiatives towards creating entrepreneurial ideas towards heritage tourism. He said that the historical significance of Jammu needs to be promoted at an international level

Sh. S. M Sahni while appreciating the efforts of SHTM, JU for this initiative stressed upon the relevance of such events. He highlighted the role of heritage in bringing peace and said that heritage can be used as a tool for motivating people to unite and promote social harmony.

Kirpal Singh, Curator, Dogra Art Museum, Mubarak Mandi, guided the students through the walk to the interiors of Mubarak Mandi buildings complex and shared the the archaeological and historical significance of the rich Dogra culture.
The heritage walk is in line with the series of initiatives taken by the School under the leadership of Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas, Director, SHTM. Dr. Anil Gupta presented the formal vote of thanks while Dr. Suvidha Khanna coordinated the event.
