Rail service suspended in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Train service remained suspended for the second day on Sunday for security reasons in the Kashmir valley, where separatists have called for a general strike against the killing of militants and Cordoned and Search Operation (CASO).
We have not operated any train today also, a senior railway official said.
He said a fresh advisory was received from administration and police Saturday night directing not to resume train service.
Therefore, he said, no train will chug on Srinagar-Badgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north for the second day today.
No train will also run from Badgam-Srinagar to Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.
He said train service will be resumed only after getting green signal from police.
We cannot help passengers as we have to act as per the directions by police for the security and safety of travelers and rail property, he said.
Railway has become a very popular in the Kashmir valley, which is cheap, safe and fast against other mode of transport.
Train service remained suspended during strikes and encounters between militants and security forces in the Kashmir valley for security reasons.
