Srinagar-Leh highway restored for light vehicles; 60 trapped passengers rescued

Srinagar: The traffic on 434-km Srinagar-Leh highway was restored on Sunday for light motor vehicles after remaining closed for two and a half days.

Mohammad Omar Shah, DSP Kangan, told Greater Kashmir that light motor vehicles were allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil after stranded vehicles were evacuated from Zojila today afternoon.

He said 60 persons trapped at Captain morh in Zojila area last night were rescued by a police party from Sonamarg police station.

Traffic was suspended on the highway after heavy snowfall and slippery conditions on Friday.
