Mercury dips; Jammu records 11.2, Leh coldest at minus 5.9

JAMMU: With first rain of the winter season, the mercury has taken a sharp dip across the different parts of the state.
While, Jammu city recorded a minimum temperature of 11.2, Banihal 1.7, Katra 10 while Batote and Bhaderwah towns both recorded 3.6 degrees Celsius as Thursday night’s lowest temperature, Leh town in Ladakh region was the coldest where the night temperature dropped to minus 5.9 degrees Celsius, a Met official said.
The minimum in neighbouring Kargil was minus 5.2 degrees, while in Srinagar, the minimum temperature was 1.1 while it was 0.7 in Pahalgam and minus 4.5 in Gulmarg.
Higher reaches had received snow on Wednesday that forced the closure of many mountain passes, including the Zojilla that connects the Valley with the Ladakh region.
