JAMMU: Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor and Supreme Court Judge Vazhakkulangarayil Khalid, popularly known as V Khalid passed away in a private hospital in Kunnur due to age related illness, on Wednesday afternoon around 1300 hrs.
He was 95, and survived by wife Rabiya and daughter Tahira. The funeral will be held at Kannur City Jamia Masjid in the evening.
Khalid had served as the acting Governor of Jammu and Kashmir for just 12 days in 1984.
Justice Khalid served as the judge of the Supreme Court from June 25, 1984 till his retirement on June 30, 1987.
Before his elevation as judge of the Apex Court, he had served as Chief Justice of the Jammu& Kashmir High Court.
His judgement in Shah Bano case made him popular, when he stated the divorced Muslim woman has right over the property of her ex-husband.
