Ganderbal, Nov 14: Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested two youth allegedly involved in a braid chopping incident last month in central Kashmir district of Ganderbal.

''A girl last month alleged that her braid was chopped by unidentified persons at Wakura in Ganderbal,” Senior Superintendent of Police Ganderbal Fayaz Ahmed Lone told reporters during a press conference on Tuesday.

He said a case was registered at Ganderbal police station and investigation was taken up.
''After strenuous efforts many suspects were rounded up,” he said, adding the girl during the identification parade identified two people.
''According to the girl, both the youth had chopped her braid,'' he said.

He said the identification parade was done in front of the District Magistrate.
“The duo, residents of Khag in central Kashmir district of Budgam, was immediately taken into custody and further investigation was going on,” Mr Lone said.

The SSP said during preliminary investigation it came to light that the duo had gone to the area with the intention of a theft.
“Both the accused had come to the area to carry out a burglary, taking advantage of the braid chopping incidents. People at the height of braid chopping incidents used to come out of their houses and stay on the roads to keep guard. So burglary in an empty house was convenient for them,” he added.
