Another woman critically injured, one terrorist killed

JAMMU: A day after Army Chief asserted that situation in Kashmir is improving, terrorists came out all gun blazing as they shot dead a woman- something not heard of very often- besides injuring another in restive south Kashmir's Pulwama district Sunday afternoon, while gunning down a snack-vendor from Uttar Pradesh, late night in Bijbehara.
Meanwhile, an unidentified terrorist was killed in a gunbattle with security forces in Langet area of Kupwara district early morning.
It was not a common occurrence in strife- torn valley when terrorists opened fire on two women in Seer Tral in Pulwama, today morning. One of them, Yasmeena, a resident of Khonmoh, was killed in the attack while another, identified as Rubeena, a resident of Seer sustained serious injuries.
The terrorists had, reportedly, barged into the house of the Rubeena, which sources said was associated with Noor Mohammed Tantray, also known as 'Noor Trali', the main suspect in the recent militant attack on the BSF camp near Srinagar airport.
Adding to the air of mystery around the incident is the report that said the attackers mentioned the name of the injured woman and said "she owed them money."
The police suspects terrorists belonging to terror-outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad to be behind the assault.
A police cordon was put in place around the area to nab the culprits.
In another barbaric attack, terrorists on Sunday night shot dead a man from Uttar Pradesh in Bijbehara in south Kashmir.
The deceased identified as Shakir, aged around 35, used to run a street food stall at Arwani in Bijbehara. He was shot twice in his chest and legs, police said.
Shakir was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
It was immediately not clear as to who was the behind the killing, but police blamed terrorists groups for the incident.
Shakir had been running the food stall in the area for nine years. He is survived by his wife and two children, police said.
The killing comes a week after a lesser-known militant outfit, Mujahideen-e-Kashmir, asked all non-local Muslims to leave the Valley before October 25.
Meanwhile, an unidentified militant was killed in a gunbattle with security forces in Langet area of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir.
An encounter broke out between militant and security forces this morning after the latter launched a search operation in Langet, 100 kms from here, an Army official said.
He said one militant has been killed and the encounter is still underway.
The terrorist with whom sources associated the injured woman is on the radar of security forces.
Identified as Noor Mohammad Tantray, 47 years old and a resident of Tral, police have launched a manhunt for Jaish-e-Muhammud's new leader who is only three ft tall.
Tantray, as per a media agency, was arrested in Delhi in 2003 and sentenced to life by a POTA court in 2011, before jumping parole a few months ago and now has rejoined militancy.
The media report quoted a senior police officer saying: "Our investigations into the recent attacks have revealed that he (Tantray) is playing a pivotal role in the Jaish. He and another Jaish commander, Mufti Waqas, have been playing a major role in the recent attacks carried out by the outfit."
Police sources have reportedly said that "Tantray provided logistical support to JeM militants who stormed the District Police Lines in Pulwama in August." Besides, he has been held responsible for the October 3, attack on a BSF unit outside Srinagar airport.
"Sources said Tantray was also found to be involved in the grenade attack on State PWD Minister Naeem Akhtar's cavalcade in Tral on September 21."
