D&FCO books 30 business establishments in Jammu

JAMMU:The teams of Drugs & Food Control Organization (D&FCO) have booked around thirty business establishments and destroyed over one thousand kg staled food and rotten vegetables during special drive launched across Jammu region on the eve of Diwali festival. As per a spokesperson, on the directions of Commissioner of Food Safety, Jammu & Kashmir, a special drive was launched on the eve of Diwali festival by the empowered authorities of Drugs and Food Control Organization, Jammu & Kashmir under Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006 to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food articles to the consumers. During the drive, three hundred twenty eight (328) samples of different food articles like Khoya, Ladoo, Double Toned Milk, Guldana, Burfi, Gulab Jamun, Patisa, Peetha, Milk Cake, Rusgulla, Kishmish, Oil, Ghee, Badam Giri etc were lifted and 1275 kg of decomposed/rotten sweets, fruits/vegetables, prepared food and unwholesome milk were destroyed on spot as a precautionary measure. The inspections were carried out in different markets of Municipal Limits Jammu, District Jammu (Rural), Samba, Kathua, Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Poonch Udhampur, Ramban and Reasi districts. Thirty (30) Food Business Operators were booked for insanitary and unhygienic conditions. Two establishments were sealed in Reasi district for preparing sweets in unhygienic conditions and without proper License/Registration as mandated under Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006.
Meanwhile, the public in general has been advised to go through the label declaration while purchasing a food product. The Food Business Operators are advised to maintain high standards of sanitary conditions so as to provide safe and quality food products to the consumers.
