Drug peddler held with 70 kg poppy straw, car seized

JAMMU: Continuing its drive against narcotics smugglers targeting youth in city, the police today arrested one narcotics smuggler during a checking at T. Chowk in Banihal of Ramban district and recovered 70 kgs of Poppy straw from his possession.
According to a Police spokesperson the accused has been identified as Abid Ahmed Sofi son of Gul Mohd Sofi resident of Khanabal, Anantnag.
On specific information a special naka was established at T. Chowk and during checking, intercepted a Car (NISAN) bearing Registration No. PB07R /2705, he said and added, during checking of the car, the Police team recovered 70 kg of puppy straw concealed in a fabricated chamber behind the rear seat of the car.
“The driver of the car Abid Ahmed Sofi was arrested while consignment of contraband alongwith vehicle being used by smuggler too seized,” he said, adding, “Meanwhile, a case FIR No. 163/17 u/s 8/15 NDPS Act stood registered against the accused and further investigations were taken up.”
