Army Chief in Jammu today, to bestow 'President's Standard' at 47 Armed Rgmt, review security

JAMMU: Amid frequent truce violations by the Pakistan Army, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Bipin Rawat will be visiting winter capital today to present prestigious President's Standard to 47 Armed Regiment operating along western borders at Zorawar Stadium, Military Station in Sunjwan.
Raised in 1982, the regiment has won the President's Standard for its meritorious service of more than three decades, and today, it will mark the occasion with a mounted parade with battle tanks, as confirmed by an official said who added, "General Rawat will also release a Special Day Cover."
The Presentation of Colours or Standards from the President is in recognition of the regimental flag and to commend the regiment for courage displayed during conflicts.
While, usually the practice involves President, but in absence of him, this time, the army chief will present the Standards to 47 Armed Regiment.
This will be second time in two months that a regiment operating in Jammu and Kashmir will be presented with such prestigious honour.
Earlier on August 21, 2017, President Ram Nath Kovind presented Colours to all five battalions and the regimental centre of the Ladakh Scouts during his first official visit to Leh. In his capacity as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, he not only presented the 'President's Colours to Ladakh Scouts but also dedicated the visit to the armed forces of the country.
Giving information about detailed schedule of Army chief, sources said that Gen Rawat will land at Jammu in the morning and shall take a Guard of Honour at Sunjwan.
"After presenting 'President's Standards' to the designated Armed Regiment, the Army chief is scheduled to address the gathering of Jawans which will be followed by a formal interaction with media persons at the sidelines of the event.
"General Rawat would also chair a security review meeting with top field commanders," sources said.
Army chief's visit at this juncture is being considered as a morale boost to the jawans especially those who are defending the dividing line in the state.
