Army chief, Spl DG CRPF visit Jammu, Kashmir on Diwali eve, review security situation in both regions

Rawat in Jammu on Oct 21, to present President's Standard to 47 Armoured Regiment


JAMMU: In a major boost to the morale of security personnel deployed in both regions of the state, Army chief General Bipin Rawat and Special Director General of CRPF, J&K zone, N Shrivastava visited Srinagar and Jammu, respectively and extended Diwali greetings to the jawans, besides reviewing security situation in both regions.
The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Bipin Rawat arrived at Srinagar where he carried out a review of the security situation in the valley.
General Rawat was given a detailed brief about the situation in the Kashmir valley and Line of Control (LoC), where terrorists are trying to sneak into this side from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) before infiltration routes are closed due to snowfall, a defence ministry spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said.
"The COAS was received by Lt Gen D Anbu, Northern Army Commander and Lt Gen JS Sandhu, Chinar Corps Commander," he said, adding that the Army Chief addressed all officers in Badami Bagh Cantonment and complimented them for providing excellent military leadership in the most challenging circumstances.
He also commended all ranks for their relentless pursuit towards achieving the objective of bringing in peace and normalcy to the Valley.
Col Kalia said Gen Rawat Chief was briefed by Chinar Corps Commander on the latest operations and updated on the overall security scenario along the Line of Control as well as in the hinterland.
A large number of militants are waiting across the LoC in launch pads to sneak into this side before the higher reaches are closed due to snowfall. However, the security forces are already on high alert to foil any such infiltration attempt.
Meanwhile, in Jammu, Special Director General of CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir zone, N Shrivastava on Wednesday extended Diwali greetings to all the personnel, besides reviewing the security situation in the region and stressed upon the need to enhance the level of synergy and cooperation among all forces to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
"There is a need to enhance the level of synergy and cooperation among all the forces operating in the state to achieve this ultimate aim," Shrivastava said while chairing a high-level security review meetings at Banihal in Ramban and Kishtwar districts of Jammu region.
Senior CRPF officials and officers of other sister agencies, including the Army, state police and intelligence agencies, attended the meeting, a CRPF spokesman said.
He said Shrivastava briefed the officials about the prevailing security scenario in the region and challenges lying before the forces in the backdrop of 'Darbar move' from Srinagar to Jammu.
'Darbar move" is over a century-old practice under which the state government functions six months each in summer capital Srinagar and winter capital Jammu. The civil secretariat and other move offices of the government are scheduled to close in Srinagar later this month and reopen here on November 6.
Accompanied by Inspector General CRPF, Jammu sector, A V Chauhan and Deputy Inspector General (operations), Jammu north, S K Mishra, Shrivastava appreciated the professionalism displayed by the CRPF in ensuring peace and tranquillity in the region and emphasised upon the need to continue doing the job in the same manner.
He said the CRPF has improved its capabilities with the passage of time and assured that the time is not far when the state would be free of violence.
The top officer also assured the personnel that the welfare of their families is high on his priority.
Meanwhile, Army chief General Bipin Rawat will arrive in Jammu on October 21 to present President's Standard to 47 Armoured Regiment operating along western borders.
"The chief will present the President's Standard to 47 Armoured Regiment at the Sunjawan Military Station Jammu," a defence spokesperson said.
The regiment, operating along the western borders, will mark the occasion with a mounted parade with battle tanks," he said adding, "General Rawat will also release a Special Day Cover."
Raised in 1982, the regiment has won the President's Standard for its meritorious service of more than three decades.
"General Rawat would also chair a security review meeting with top field commanders," sources said
