Four injured in Army firing on protestors over Braid-chopping

SRINAGAR: The protests over alleged braid-chopping resulted in injuries to at-least five persons on Wednesday, when security forces fired on a mob in Pahalgam following one such incident.
The incident took place in Sofipora in Sallar village of Walerhama in Pahalgam, where the locals who were protesting against the alleged braid-chopping incidents got in a scuffle with the army personnel passing by, leading to use of force by the jawans, which resulted in injuries to four protestors.
Residents of a village in Pahalgam area of Anantnag district staged a protest after they caught an alleged braid chopper, a police official said.
He said a security forces vehicle passing through the area was stopped by the protesters, who tried to deflate its tyres.
As the mob got violent, the security forces personnel opened fire, resulting in injuries to four persons, the official said.
The injured were shifted to nearby hospital and are undergoing treatment. Massive protests erupted in the area after firing incident. Officials meanwhile said that all the injured are stable and are being given all kind of medical treatment for quick recovery.
Police meanwhile said that today at about 1130 hours, some persons stopped a passenger bus near Sheeri in Baramulla district and forcibly de-boarded three army men and manhandled them. "The Army men posted in Kitchama,Sheeri were on way to Baramulla to get search lights repaired. FIR has been registered in the matter and investigation taken up," a police official said.
On Tuesday, mob had trashed An Army jawan in Kupwara district on the suspicion of him being a braid-chopper, while an Army vehicle was set on fire in Ganderbal.
