JAMMU: The Union government on Tuesday appointed new directors to 11 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) including NIT Srinagar which got its new director in Rakesh Sehgal from NIT Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh.
Pertinently, NIT Srinagar witnessed students protests in April last year, after some students from the Valley and some from outside the state clashed following India’s semi-final loss to West Indies in the T-20 World Cup.

The President’s Office on Tuesday approved appointments of heads at NITs in Arunachal Pradesh, Agartala, Jamshedpur, Nagaland, Patna, Raipur, Silchar, Srinagar and Uttarahand, besides NIT-Warangal and NIT-Durgapur, which have been headless for over a year.
Out of the 11 appointees, two are IIT professors and five currently teaching at different NITs.
