Curfew-like restrictions imposed in parts of Civil Lines Srinagar

Curfew-like restrictions have been imposed in some parts of Civil Lines in this summer capital as a precautionary measure since early morning on Tuesday. Official sources said the restrictions under Section 144 CrPC have been imposed in some areas under police station Maisuma to prevent any law and order problem.

The restrictions in Maisuma, strong hold of separatist organistaion, was imposed following massive clashes between security forces and demonstrators, who were protesting against a braid chopping incident in the area on Monday. All roads leading to Maisuma and adjoining localities have been closed with barbed wire and a large number of security forces and police personnel have been deployed.

“We have orders not to allow anybody to enter or leave the Maisuma area,” a security force personnel told UNI. Nearby roads leading to the market at Haji Masjid lane has also been closed by the security forces. Similar restrictions have been imposed at Red Cross Road, Gaw Kadal and Madina Chowk. Shops and business establishments at Gaw Kadal, Maisuma, Red cross road, Madina Chowk and adjoining areas remained closed and traffic was diverted through other routes due to restrictions. However, business and other activities were normal in other parts of the Civil Lines, including Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the summer capital, Budshah Chowk and Koker Bazar.
