Terrorists shot dead ex-sarpanch; one assailant killed in scuffle

SRINAGAR: Three terrorists on Monday shot dead a former sarpanch belonging to the ruling PDP in the Shopian district while the deceased's family members killed one of the assailants in a scuffle during the attack late evening today, police said.
"Three terrorists fired upon and killed ex-panch of PDP Mohammad Ramzan in Shopian," a senior police official said.
He said the family members of the deceased entered into a scuffle with the assailants in which one of the militants was killed.
The slain militant has been identified as Showkat Ahmad, resident of Trenz Shopian, the official said.
DGP J&K, Dr SP Vaid, in a tweet said, "3 militants killed an ex-sarpanch in Shopian. In scuffle, one militant was killed."
The DGP, however, did not explain further.
