Legal Metrology Department Rajouri Realises Fine of Rs 1 lakh From Cement Traders

Continuing its efforts to protect gullible consumers from unfair trade practices adopted by traders dealing with sale of cement, Legal Metrology Department today realised a fine of Rupees one lakh from such defaulters.

To ascertain the veracity of several complaints of overcharging on cement and other violations of Legal Metrology (packaged commodities) Rules 2011, the Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary constituted a team of officers from Legal Metrology, Revenue, Labour and Police Departments.

The team conducted surprise raids on cement stores in district Rajouri and in the drive booked 4 traders for violating Legal Metrology Act and rules by indulging in adopting anti-consumer practices to loot hard earned money of consumer.

The traders were involved in overcharging from the consumers besides selling of cement bags without printed MRP.

The Assistant Controller further appealed to the Consumers that in case of any complaint regarding the unfair trade practices adopted by any trader, approach to the office of Assistant controller Legal Metrology Rajouri for immediate redressal of their grievances.
