Life remains crippled, internet service resumes in south Kashmir
Life remained crippled on Monday due to strike in Pulwama and Shopian districts in south Kashmir, where two Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militants, including a District Commander, were killed in an encounter with security forces October 14. A civilian was also killed and four others were injured when security forces allegedly opened fire to disperse demonstrators near the encounter site in Pulwama.
Internet service of all cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) resumed after remaining suspended for four days in south Kashmir to prevent spread of rumours on the social network. Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads in Pulwama and Shopian districts. Work in government offices, banks and undertakings was also affected.
Majority educational institutions remained closed in both the districts. Additional security forces and state police personnel remained deployed to prevent any violence. Two militants of LeT were killed in an encounter with security forces at Litter Pulwama yesterday. A civilian was also killed in alleged security force firing to disperse demonstrators near the encounter site. However, life was normal in Anantnag and Kulgam districts of south Kashmir.
