Thousands take part in Shobha Yatra in Jammu

Vishwakarma Day celebrations

JAMMU: On the eve of Vishwakarma Day celebrations, the Pradesh Vishwakarma Shaba (PVS), J&K, today took out a huge Shobha Yatra in Jammu.
The religious procession was organized under the supervision of Shashi Verma, President of the Sabha.
The Shobha Yatra was flagged off by Rashpal Verma, Vice Chairman, OBC Advisory Board (MoS); Kuldeep Raj Verma, former VC OBC Advisory Board and R. L. Chargotra, Vice President Akhil Bhartya Vishwakarma Mahasabha.
A team headed by Ravi Vishwakarma from Madhya Pradesh and Balbir Singh Lall from Ludhiana also graced the event.
People from all parts of Jammu province including women and children participated in the Shobha Yatra. Chanting of “Jai Vishwakarma” and singing of Bhajans on the slow moving trolleys added religious touch to the environment. A total of five “Zhankis” travelled through the city roads passing through Canal Road, Jewal Chowk, Gummat, Raghunath Bazaar, City Chowk, Shalamar, Indira Chowk, K.C. Chowk and culminated back in the Vishwakarma Temple, Gurha Bakshi, Nagar Jammu. Community langer was also arranged by the Sabha for the participants.
Shobha Yatra depicted various scenes of Lord Vishwakarma like making of Trishul for Lord Shiva, Sudershan Chakra for Lord Krishna, making of Golden Lanka for Ravana, making of Ram Setu etc.
R. C. Angotra and Puran Chargotra, former Presidents of PVS, who were present in Shobha Yatra, also addressed the gathering.
Shashi Verma, President of the Sabha, said that Vishwakarma Day will be celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in each Vishwakarma Temple on 20-10-2017 (Friday), the day following Diwali.
He reiterated the demand of a “Gazetted Holiday” on Vishwakarma Day and also explained that a virtual holiday has been existing since long on Vishwakarma Day.
