Hajin: Two IAF commandos martyred, 2 terrorists killed

SRINAGAR: Two Garud Commandos of the Indian Air Force (IAF) attained martyrdom, while two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists- involved in recent fatal attack on BSF Jawan on leave in Hajin- were killed in an encounter in Hajin area of Bandipora district on Wednesday morning.
The forces, later in the day, launched another search operation at Turkpora in Bandipora, sealing all exit point, however further details were awaited, till the last reports came in.
It was during the intervening night of Tuesday- Wednesday that Bandipora police along with Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in village Pribal Salamabad in Hajin area of Bandipora district, acting on information about presence of terrorists there.
As forces noticed their suspicious movement and asked to stop and surrender, the terrorists opened fire and lobbed a grenade, triggering a gun battle.
The forces suffered casualties as two IAF Garud commandos, who were part of the operation for training and experience purpose, were injured.
The injured personnel were evacuated to 92 Base Hospital here where they succumbed to injuries.
They have been identified as Sergeant Milind Kishor and Corporal Nilesh Kumar.
In the encounter that ensued, two terrorists were killed, a police official said adding the slain ultras belonged to Lashkar-e- Toiba (LeT).
They have been identified as Ali alias Abu Maaz, a Pakistani terrorist, and Nasrullah Mir, a local terrorist.
Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid said these militants were involved in a number of terror attacks in which security forces personnel and civilians were killed.
"It is a big success for security forces," Vaid said.
A police official said two AK rifles, one pistol, one hand grenade 12 AK magazines and 75 rounds were recovered from the scene of the encounter.
Both the terrorists were involved in many attacks including case FIR number 56/2017 under section 452, 307, 302, 7/27 A. Act RPC, attack on BSF Jawan namely Mohammad Ramzan @rameez at his home, with knives and then fired indiscriminately, in which the said Jawan was martyred and injuries to his old aged father Ghulam Ahmad Parray, two elder brothers Mohammad Afzal Parray, Javid Ahmad Parray and paternal aunt Habla Begum wife of late Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Shah.
They were also involved in case FIR number 42/17 under section 307 RPC, 7/27 A. Act firing on patrolling party in which one army captain and two army jawans were injured,
Pertinent to mention here that Nasrullah Mir was also involved in stone pelting case FIR numbers 38/2014, 44/2014 and 52/2014 of Police Station Hajin
General officer Commanding of the Chinar Corps of the Army Lt General J S Sandhu led officers and other ranks in paying tribute to the slain IAF men.
"Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks salute the supreme sacrifice of India Air Force Garud martyrs of Hajin operation," an Army official said.
A wreath laying ceremony was held at Badamibagh headquarters of the Army here for the soldiers.
Senior officers from the Army, police and IAF were present at the ceremony.
