Three terrorists involved in Banihal attack: J&K police

JAMMU: Ending speculation over the killing of a head constable of Sashastra Seema Bal and wounding of another jawan on Wednesday night in Ramban district, the state police said that that the attack was carried out by terrorists.
"Yesterday's incident was a terror attack carried out by three militants at SSB camp in Banihal belt last evening," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ramban, Mohan Lal said, ending speculation about the incident which appeared mysterious initially.
The militants fired at the securitymen, killing one of them and injuring another, he said.
While Head Constable Ram Pravesh was killed, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Shyam Sood was injured and hospitalised in Srinagar.
The militants fled with two rifles of the SSB personnel after the attack at the camp of the paramilitary force outside an 8.5 km-long under-construction tunnel connecting Banihal town in Jammu province with Kulgam district's Qazigund, the gateway to the Kashmir valley.
"The militants also sntached two rifles of the SSB men," Lal said, adding this was the first incident of militancy in the district in the past few years.
According to some reports, a mobile phone was recovered about one kilometre away from the incident side.
A case has been registered and investigation started, the police said.
Police and security forces have launched a combing and search operation in entire Banihal and adjoining hills to track down the attackers.
