Fencing on Indo-Pak border by 2018: Rijiju

New Delhi: The fencing on the India-Pakistan border laced with modern technology will be completed by the end of next year, Minister of state for Home Kiren Rijiju claimed, stating that due to the work has been delayed due to involvement of multiple agencies in border management.
"Due to the involvement of many agencies in border management, work on the fencing and application of technology is being delayed. However, the same will be completed by the end of 2018," Rijiju said at a conference organised on the topic of 'Smart Border Management'.
He said that work on the fencing was delayed due to complex tendering process and other formalities and stressed the need to remove these formalities now.
Rijiju stressed the need for better coordination and cooperation between various government agencies and all the parties to speed up this work.
He said that along with the adoption of technology, there is also need to change the mindset. He expressed the hope that by the end of next year, fencing equipped with modern technology will be completed on the border.
Rijiju said that development of border areas should be done in a similar way as is being done in the interior areas of the country, adding thatgovernment is working to strengthen the marine police to help secure the country's long coastline.
"For this, there is a need for a good coordination between policy makers, defence and security agencies," he said.
The Minister of State for Home said that the government is fast moving forward on improving security and infrastructure in the border areas.
