SRINAGAR: State police chief S P Vaid on Monday appealed to religious leaders, politicians and parents to help youths in the Valley stay away from militancy. He said the security forces too would make every effort to keep them away from guns and drugs. "I appeal to the elders, religious leaders, parents and political leaders to make the children understand what is good for them. Bloodshed will not yield anything," Vaid told reporters here.
The DGP was speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration of a water sports festival in the Dal Lake here.
Vaid said the police has saved around 60 youths from the clutches of militancy in Kashmir and added that the security forces would help those seeking to renounce the path of violence.
Asked whether the Lashkar-e-Toiba has named anyone as their new commander, the DGP said "...I have heard that there is a vacancy for a commander, but no one is willing to take it."
