4 lakh volunteers for alp-vistaraks: Lal

JAMMU: Around four lakh party activists have volunteered to become 'alp-vistarak' and spread awareness about various government polices and schemes in the birth centenary year of Jan Sangh ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhayay, a senior party leader said on Sunday.
An alp-vistarak is a member who works for the party's growth for about 15 days, in an area other than his home state or locality. They also spread awareness about various government policies and schemes among the common people.
"Nearly 4 lakh workers have volunteered to be the 'alp- vistarak' in the birth centenary year of great ideologue Upadhayay," BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) Ram Lal said at a conference of alp-vistarak's here.
He asked the volunteers to share their experiences about they stay as alp-vistarak with other workers, and said that the party's national president had also worked as alp- vistarak.
Claiming that the move was welcomed by the people, he said for the first time a political party was approaching them after the elections were over.
He also said that the BJP has most number of MPs, MLAs, primary members and also governments in most of the states, but there is zero corruption.
Apart from Lal, Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office Jitendra Singh, Lok Sabha MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, Rajya Sabha MP Shamsher Singh Manhas, state general secretary (Org) Ashok Koul participated in the conference.
The J-K deputy chief minister said that the BJP is a a cadre-based organisation and boasted of the tradition of selfless whole timers in the party who had devoted their lives for the nation.
Jitendra Singh said that this government was taking some of the landmark decisions for the welfare of poor people.
He said that in the BJP, a leader emerges after working on the ground, be it is the PM, the President or the Vice- President as well as the party president, which was absent in successive previous governments.
Today, he said that the BJP was in power in 18 states.
