Terrorism a fundamental threat to democracy, coexistence: Speakers

JAMMU: Terrorism is a fundamental threat to democracy and mutual coexistence, which needs to be destroyed militarily and any engagement with the masters of terror in the name of dialogue and empowerment would be counter-productive, which has already proved globally.
These were the assertions made by various speakers at a workshop on National Integration organized by Jammu & Kashmir Unity Foundation and Association SEED in collaboration with Mother India Senior Secondary School R. S. Pura here today as part of the 71st Independence Day celebrations.
The main aim of the workshop was to inculcate nationalism, patriotism and inclusive culture amongst the children. Speaking on the occasion, Ajaat Jamwal, President, JKUF, said that Jammu & Kashmir is continuously facing the terrorist onslaught by the neighboring country and the people of border areas from Kathua to R. S. Pura to Rajouri - Poonch are facing a difficult time. He further said that enemies of peace are trying to disturb the communal harmony, peace and tranquility in the state and people should unite to thwart the enemy designs. In his address, Dr. Ajay Chrungoo, Defence & Strategic Expert, explained whole range of issues related to terrorism and described terrorism as a fundamental threat to democracy and co-existence, which needs to be destroyed militarily. Any engagement with the masters of terror in the name of dialogue and empowerment has proved counter-productive globally, he added.
Earlier, the programme started with Saraswati Vandana by the students and lighting of traditional lamp by Sonia Tohra and Rajinder Choudhary, Principal of respective schools, Ajaat Jamwal and Dr. Ajay Chrungoo. A quiz competition on “History and Culture of Jammu & Kashmir’ was also held on the occasion, which was conducted by Dimple Koul, Project Officer, Association SEED. Principal Sonia Tohra presented welcome address and Rajinder Choudhary presented vote of thanks.
Paramjeet Kour, teacher of Mother’s Pride Senior Secondary School R. S. Pura, conducted the programme.
