Militants escape after injuring two policemen in north Kashmir

Two personnel of Jammu and Kashmir police were injured in an attack by militants, who later managed to escape in north Kashmir district of Bandipora today, official sources said. A police spokesman in a tweet confirmed that two policemen were injured in the attack. They said security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of state police and CRPF launched a joint search operation in Hajan area of Bandipora district in the wee hours today following a tip off about the presence of militants.

As the security forces were sealing two villages, the militants hiding there opened fire with automatic weapons during which two policemen, identified as Mukhtar Ahmad and Mohammad Ashraf, were injured, they said, adding that security forces also retaliated. The injured were hospitalised. Locals immediately hit the streets and pelted stones on security forces , they said, adding that the militants have managed to escape under the cover of darkness, the sources added
