Chief of Army Staff Gen Bipin Rawat today visited the forward areas of bordering districts and reviewed security situation and operational preparedness. "General Bipin Rawat this morning arrived here to review the security situation and operational preparedness of the armed forces posted along the Line of Control," defence sources here said. They said the Army chief has flown to forward areas along the LoC in Rajouri-Poonch belt where he will review the security situation in the wake of recent heavy shelling by the Pakistani Army.

"Gen Rawat landed in Jammu this morning for a security review meeting and a visit to forward areas along the LoC," he said. "The purpose of the Army Chief's visit was to review the security situation and operational preparedness along the LoC," he said. Gen Rawat will also be briefed about the situation along the LoC in the wake of reports of infiltration and ceasefire violations. His visit assumes significance as 11 people, including 9 soldiers, were martyred in border skirmishes this month along the LoC. The border tension saw over 4,000 residents of border villages moved to government camps at safer places in the Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu region.
