NIA team starts probing incident of explosives inside UP assembly: questions some assy employees

Though confusion over the powdery substance recovered from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly yet to be cleared, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) commenced probe into the matter by visiting the Assembly premises today. Sleuths of Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), which has been probing the matter till now, has already sent the sample of the powde to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) at Hyderabad for confirmation. Officials said a forensic team of NIA along with senior officials, including IG G P Singh, SPs Atul Goyal and Dr BS Vaswani, who reached the state capital yesterday, visited the Assembly at 1100 hrs and took first hand account of facts. The team members examined the spot from where the substance was recovered on July 12. The NIA team were assisted by the officials of UP ATS and assembly security personnel also questioned some employees and took the CCTV footage for scanning.

The NIA team is also expected to have talk with some of legislators under whose table the explosive substance was found. The initial findings of FSL Lucknow pointed that the recovered substance was ‘PETN’ (plastic explosive) and the report has been collected by the NIA team. Sources said besides waiting for the report from Hyderabad CFSL, the NIA officers could also get the powder re-examined by their own experts before starting an in-depth probe.
