Passenger finds lizard in food served in Train

New Delhi: A Lizard was found in a food served to a passenger on-board Poorva Express Number 12303 on Howrah-Delhi route on Tuesday. The passenger then took a picture of lizard in the food and complained to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Twitter.

Following the complaint, the Rail Minister pressed the authorities into action. The passenger in her Twitter complaint, wrote, "The passenger ate the Biryani and is now feeling unwell." Railway officials were sent to her coach after the incident and assured the passenger of due action against officials over this.

Speaking to media, Kishor Kumar, divisional railway manager (DRM) Danapur Division said that a check-up was done in Danapur Division & the passenger was given medicine. He also said that the action will be taken only after detailed investigation. According to the passenger, he had ordered the food in Mokama and found lizard in his meal.

He immediately complained to TTE & canteen manager and also tweeted to Railway Minister. The passenger also said that he was given the medicine really late. The incident comes close on the heels of the CAG report that rapped railways over the quality of food served on trains. It may be recalled that a Comptroller and Auditor General report revealed that catering services offered by the Indian Railways to passengers is not fit for human consumption.

It also observed that contaminated foodstuff, recycled foodstuffs, shelf life expired packaged and bottled items, unauthorized brands of water bottles, etc., were offered for sale on station. It is not the first time that such a complaint has been received from people travelling by train. Passengers travelling by the train frequently report about the improper food served to them.
