JAMMU: Even as the ruling Peoples Democratic Party has yet to officially react on the arrest of Hurriyat leaders by National Investigation Agency, the Opposition National Conference has congratulated the probe agency and also sought further investigation into shady funding by the government of India in Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the ruling ally Bhartiya Janta Party has asked for taking the probe further to Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah while congratulating National Investigative Agency for arresting seven separatists in its probe in terror funding, has said that the agency must also investigate whether the Indian government ever funded the separatists or not.
Talking to media sources on Tuesday, Abdullah said, "I congratulate NIA for its probe on funding of Hurriyat leaders. From where the money has came and how it is been utilised we will get to know that soon. One fact should also be investigated if Indian Government funded Hurriyat or not."
BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav said that the NIA carried out its investigation and had taken legal action. "In Kashmir Valley, the agitation against the security forces which turns out to be violent could be partially spontaneous, but it is largely sponsored by separatists. They get money through illegal routes from across the border. They are the ones who indulge in anti-India activities", Madhav said.
"Innocent people of the Valley are becoming guinea pigs in these acts of separatists. the political message is loud and clear. Law will be asked to take its course. It will not be stopped. Agencies will not be pressurised into not acting", the BJP leader added. While the Hurriyat had called for a bandh in the Valley today, traffic jams and open shops in Srinagar show that people in most parts have given a thumbs-down to the separatists and that they barely have any following among the locals.
"People of the Valley have seen through this bandh game of Hurriyat. We will make sure that people will no longer be afraid of these kinds of elements", Madhav said.
"We assure people that illegal and anti-national activities of Hurriyats will not be tolerated", he added.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Ahir on Tuesday said the government is working towards ending terrorism and Separatists from its roots.
Lauding the crackdown by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on "Separatists" that led to the arrest of seven leaders on alleged money laundering charges in the Kashmir Valley, Ahir said that the NIA will keep doing such work to "fight terrorism and no one will stop them".
"In Kashmir, the separatists and terrorists have created tensions and the government is working on ending it. NIA is investigating against those who have given a boost to terrorism. We have to show Separatists their real place and end the terrorism. We have to protect people and give security to people. NIA will keep doing its work and no one will stop them. We are working toward success and we will end the terrorism and eliminate all elements of Separatism," he added.
