Major terror plot foiled in Poonch

JAMMU: The security forces today foiled a major terrorist plan to engineer a blast as they recovered and defused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing 5 Kgs in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, officials said.
During the area domination exercise conducted jointly by the army and the police in Loran-Mandi in Poonch district, an IED weighing 5 Kgs was recovered, a police officer said.
Traffic on Loran Mandi road was suspended and the IED defused, he said.
The IED was recovered on the Loran-Mand road just a few days ahead of the commencement of the annual 'Buddha Amarnath yatra' to a mountainous shrine of Lord Shiva in the Poonch district. The pilgrimage will begin from July 28.
Meanwhile, an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) was today arrested along with arms and ammunition in Kupwara district, official sources said.
They said following specific information about presence of an OGW at Kralgund in Kupwara, a joint operation was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) of state police and Army in the area.
They said during the operation one OGW, identified as Mushtaq Ahmad, was arrested along with arms and ammunition.
"The OGW, who belongs to JeM, is being questioned, they added.
