Mega awareness program under SVEEP held

KATHUA, JULY 25: As part of the special drive to enroll left out electors district administration today organized an awareness rally and a cultural program to create awareness among young voters and enable them to participate in the voting process with enthusiasm. The rally was flagged off from Ram Leela Ground and culminated at Govt. Degree College where the main function was organised.
District Election Officer, Ramesh Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion. ADC Kathua, ACR, DFO, DIO, BDO, Principal GDC, DEPO, teachers and students in large numbers were also present on the occasion.
Underscoring the importance of this special drive DEO said that this is an all out effort meant for enrolling the left out eligible voters between the age group of 18-19 years and appealed them to get themselves enrolled and further asked them to persuade other eligible left out electors for their enrolment. He further said that under Interactive School Engagement (ISE) which is an outreach initiative under the flagship SVEEP programme of the Election Commission of India, Election officials along with District Administration will interact with the school(Class 10th -12th ) and college going students, and reply to their queries regarding elections and the electoral process, and sensitize the students about the importance of electoral participation by eligible citizens.
Earlier, Natrang theatre group staged ‘Loktantra Ka Mantra’, a Hindi play through which a pledge was administered to people of all the sections of the society who are of 18 years and above that they would excise their right to vote.
Programs on same theme were organized at tehsil level throughout the district.
