Communist Party of India (CPI) will observe nation-wide Jail Bharo, demonstration, picketing of Central and State Government offices in support of farmers for three days from tomorrow. Announcing this at a press conference here today, CPI National Council Secretary Atul Kumar Anjaan along with Telangana CPI Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy said the BJP led NDA Government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi have miserably failed to check the ongoing farmers’ suicides in the country.
The BJP ruled States were the worst effected, he said, adding that the Indian Agriculture and farmers’ Welfare Ministry in its report had said that in BJP ruled state of Maharashtra more than 1,841 farmers had committed suicide in 2016. Mr Atul said that during the pre-2014 Parliament Election campaign, Mr Modi repeatedly said that if BJP comes to power and he as a Prime Minister would implement the National Commission on Farmers (NCF) recommendations of eminent agri-scientist M S Swaminathan. The Prime Minister also assured that the farmers would get price of their agri goods, MSP+50 per cent additional on their produce. The Government of India on the direction of Prime Minister informed the Supreme Court in an affidavit that Central Government has no intention to give MSP+50 per cent on agri products of farmers, he alleged.
The CPI leader said the farmers were pressing 7 point charter of demands for implementation by Central and State Governments. The demands are immediate implementation of Swaminathan Commission, bringing down growing agriculture input cost. Seed, Fertilizer, Pesticides, Diesel, Electricity, pump set and generators must have zero tax and should be out of GST.
The Farmers are also demanding Rs 1 lakh crore Price stablising fund be created by the government to check the downward prices of agri-produce, farmers, agriculture workers and rural artisans be given Rs 10,000 pension per month by the central and state governments after attaining age of 60 years and withdraw LAA 2014 immediately which was brought by the Modi government.
