A day after Army soldiers thrashed six policemen, including an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI), in central Kashmir district of Ganderbal, General officer Commanding (GoC) 15 Corps Lt Gen JS Sandhu said that efforts to create divide between Army and police by ‘anti-nationals’ won’t work. He further said that police and Army have always worked as brothers in arms. “Efforts to create divide between Army and police by anti-nationals won’t work.

We are together always working as brothers in arms,” Lt Gen Sandhu wrote on micro-blogging site twitter. Six policemen were injured when Army soldiers, in civvies, allegedly thrashed them after being stopped at a check-post in Ganderbal, prompting Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid to take up the matter with the GoC 15 corps, who assured action against the accused personnel. A Police spokesman yesterday said that Friday at 2200 hrs, some Army officials after performing Darshan, reached Sonamarg on the way back and wanted to proceed to Srinagar.

However, they were stopped by police Naka as the Road Opening Party (ROP) had been withdrawn and cut off time for movement of Yatra vehicles was over. These Army men forcibly after breaking the barrier moved towards Gund, where they were again stopped by the SHO of Police Station Gund and his men and were taken to Police Station Gund, in order to avoid any ugly scene on the roadside. He said it was then an Army officer with his men from the nearby Army Unit entered Police Station and had a heated argument with the SHO, resulting in scuffle between the Armymen and the policemen, in which some policemen received minor injuries.
